Arabella is a family-owned venture established on land in South Africa's Western Cape that has been in the De Wet family since the 1860s. The estate’s name was chosen as a tribute to the beautiful Arabian horses that grace its verdant pastures. The unique terroir of Arabella is defined by its location on the floor of an ancient inland lake, which left behind thick deposits of calcareous silt and water-washed boulders. This rich, lime-rich soil, once thought suitable only for pastures, was unlocked by modern viticulture to produce flourishing vineyards. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, treating the winemaker as a shepherd of the vines. By utilizing gentle pressing techniques and traditional methods, Arabella ensures that the vibrant tropical fruit and crisp acidity of the Chenin Blanc are preserved, resulting in a wine that truly expresses its sense of place.
