Arabella is a family-owned venture established on land in South Africa's Western Cape that has been in the De Wet family since the 1860s. The estate’s name was chosen as a tribute to the beautiful Arabian horses that grace its verdant pastures. With deep roots in the region, the family is passionately involved in every aspect of the business, driven by a desire to provide customers with a special experience and high-quality wines that reflect their long-standing heritage.
The unique terroir of Arabella is defined by its location on the floor of an ancient inland lake, which left behind thick deposits of calcareous silt and water-washed boulders. This rich, lime-rich soil, once thought suitable only for pastures, was unlocked by modern viticulture to produce flourishing vineyards. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, treating the winemaker as a shepherd of the vines. By utilizing gentle pressing techniques and traditional methods, Arabella ensures that the vibrant tropical fruit and crisp acidity of the Chenin Blanc are preserved, resulting in a wine that truly expresses its sense of place.
