Caymus California Cabernet Sauvignon

Founded in 1972 by Charlie and Lorna Wagner alongside their son Chuck, Caymus Vineyards is a cornerstone of California winemaking. The Wagner family’s roots in Napa Valley date back to the 1850s, though they initially farmed various crops, including walnuts and prunes during Prohibition. The decision to establish Caymus was born from the family's conviction that the high-quality grapes they had been growing for others deserved their own label. Named after Rancho Caymus, a 19th-century Mexican land grant that once encompassed their Rutherford estate, the winery quickly rose to international prominence, eventually becoming the only producer to twice earn Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year award.

The California Cabernet Sauvignon bottling reflects a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes flavor and accessibility over rigid single-site tradition. While the winery is anchored in the gravelly soils and ideal climate of Rutherford, this specific expression expands its reach to diverse terrains across the state, including Paso Robles and Monterey County. The Wagner family approaches winemaking as farmers first, employing a meticulous "hang time" technique that allows grapes to reach full maturity and deep color.
