96 points Wine Enthusiast

While the wood flavors are palpable in this wine, so are the firm tannins and dense black fruit. These elements suggest a wine that will have power and great concentration while also generous blackberry fruits. Drink from 2024. Barrel Sample: 94-96

92 points Wine Advocate

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Brane-Cantenac starts off a tad restrained and reluctant to show, opening out to notes of baked blackberries, plum preserves and crème de cassis with hints of cigar box and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is wearing a lot of muscular fruit with firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with great length. Needs time! Rating: 92+

91 points Wine Spectator

A light singed alder hint leads the way here, along with light bay leaf and savory notes, while the core of gently steeped black cherry and plum fruit fills in slowly. Shows modest intensity through the finish but the flavors knit nicely. Barrel Sample: 88-91

Demo

94 points James Suckling

A tight, focused center palate to this red with blackberries, dark chocolate, hazelnuts and smoke. Medium to full body, polished tannins and a juicy, lightly chewy mouthfeel. A blend of 74% cabernet sauvignon, 21% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Try after 2022.

Château Brane-Cantenac Margaux 2017 showcases the timeless elegance and aromatic precision that define the great wines of Margaux. As a historic **Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé)** estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Brane-Cantenac continues to craft wines of sophistication and balance under the stewardship of the Lurton family.

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby in color, the wine opens with captivating aromas of blackcurrant , violet and cedarwood, intertwined with notes of mocha and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with beautifully integrated tannins and a refined, silky texture. The finish is long, elegant, and marked by purity of fruit and freshness — a true expression of Margaux finesse.

Winemaking & Terroir: The vineyard sits on deep gravel soils over clay and limestone, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure and aromatics. The blend consists of **74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc**, vinified with precision and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (70% new). The 2017 vintage was shaped by cooler conditions, yielding wines with exceptional balance, aromatic clarity, and classical restraint.
