Château Haut Batailley 2009
Château Haut-Batailley is marked by the "Tour l'Aspic," a tower that stands guard over the vineyards at the southern entrance to Pauillac. In 2009, the estate was still owned by the Borie family (of Grand-Puy-Lacoste), before being sold to the Cazes family in 2017. This vintage represents the culmination of the Borie era in a year that Robert Parker famously celebrated for its richness and opulence.
The 2009 vintage was a "dream" year in Bordeaux, characterized by warm days and cool nights that allowed for perfect ripening. Haut-Batailley, typically a more elegant and lighter style of Pauillac, took on a new dimension of weight and texture in this year. The resulting wine is fleshy and seductive, with the structure of Pauillac wrapped in layers of velvet.
Now fully mature, the 2009 is a window into the past. It offers the rare pleasure of a "ready" Classified Growth from a legendary year. It is a wine of comfort and generosity, perfect for a long dinner where the bottle can be savored slowly as it reveals notes of forest floor, spice, and sweet, resolved fruit.

Chateau Haut-Batailley
The Cazes family, which heads Château Lynch-Bages, are the proud new owners of Château Haut-Batailley, an 1855 Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac owned previously by the Des Brest-Borie family. Both families have had strong roots in the Pauillac and Médoc landscape for generations.
Château Haut-Batailley, acquired by the Brest-Borie family in the 1930s, was until now managed by FrançoisXavier Borie. “We are delighted that Château Haut-Batailley has been accepted into the fold of the Cazes family, who are committed to continuing the work undertaken at the estate. We're confident that they will maintain the identity and character of the property,” said François-Xavier Borie.
Château Haut-Batailley today comprises some 40 hectares, 22 hectares of which are already planted. In terms of grape variety, the property has 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Its vines are on average 35 years old.
