Château Lynch-Moussas was once part of the vast estate owned by Count Lynch in the 18th century (along with Lynch-Bages). By the early 20th century, it had fallen into disrepair, only to be saved and painstakingly restored by the Castéja family starting in 1919. The 2021 vintage represents the continuation of this century-long recovery, showcasing a wine that is true to its roots. The estate's terroir is classic Pauillac gravel, capable of producing wines of great structure. However, Lynch-Moussas is often styled to be lighter and more approachable than its massive neighbors. The 2021 vintage, with its cool summer, emphasized this characteristic. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides a sturdy frame of cedar and spice, while the lower alcohol keeps the wine digestible and energetic. This is a "lunch wine" par excellence. It is not built to win blind tastings with brute force; it is built to accompany a meal. It is a savory, refreshing, and historically accurate example of Claret—a wine that speaks softly but with the distinct accent of Pauillac nobility.
