Fontanabianca is a historic, family-run estate established in 1969 by Franco Pola in the hamlet of Bordini, within the celebrated commune of Neive. The winery takes its name from a natural spring, or white fountain, once used by local villagers. Today, the third generation is represented by winemaker Matteo Pola, who works alongside his father Aldo to continue a legacy rooted in the Langhe hills. Their Barbaresco DOCG is a culmination of decades of tradition, evolving from a small farm into a prestigious estate that balances modernized facilities with deep ancestral respect.
The terroir of Neive is defined by steep slopes and white calcareous-clay soils, rich in limestone and fossil deposits that contribute remarkable finesse and structural precision to the Nebbiolo grapes. This specific microclimate, influenced by the proximity to the Tanaro River, allows for optimal ripening and aromatic lift. Fontanabianca’s winemaking philosophy is centered on the belief that "wine is alive," prioritizing minimal intervention and the use of large oak barrels and cement vats to preserve the natural taste of the fruit. This approach ensures that every bottle authentically mirrors the elegance and perfume of the local territory.
