Weingut Kaufmann is a family-owned estate in Germany's Rheingau, led by Urban Kaufmann, who took over the historic Hans Lang estate in 2013. While the winery is best known for its Rieslings, it also produces elegant Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) that reflects the cool-climate terroir of the Rheingau.
Kaufmann Pinot Noir Rheingau is sourced from carefully selected vineyards planted on loess, loam, quartzite, and slate-influenced soils. The combination of warm sunshine along the Rhine River and cool nighttime temperatures allows Pinot Noir to ripen slowly, developing aromatic complexity while preserving freshness and natural acidity.
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small lots before maturing in French oak barrels. The restrained use of oak enhances texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of the fruit or the vineyard expression.
The result is a finely structured Pinot Noir that combines vibrant red fruit, silky tannins, and mineral finesse in a style inspired by Burgundy while remaining distinctly Rheingau.
