Contrast in Harmony — A New Voice from an Old Land
In the Chianti Rufina zone, just east of Florence, the Masi family has long balanced tradition with forward-thinking winemaking. With Contrappasso, their goal was clear: craft a wine that sings in dual voices — the lift and acidity of Sangiovese paired with the richness and velvety depth of Syrah given a gentle appassimento treatment.
This “counterpass” the name itself a play on contrast — begins with separately harvested grapes. The Syrah is partially dried to concentrate flavor and texture, while the Sangiovese is picked at peak freshness. After separate fermentation, the blend is composed with precision, yielding a wine that is both structured and generous, vibrant and dark-fruited.
Contrappasso is a Tuscan red with dual personality : at once bold and refined, approachable yet layered. It offers a new way to understand the land — not through imitation, but through the thoughtful combination of tradition and technique, freshness and depth.
