Recognized by its red shield-shaped label, the Poggio San Polo Brunello di Montalcino is a dark and nicely concentrated expression of Sangiovese. This wine shows proverbial meat on its bones with rich cherry and cassis, backed by cola, potting soil and balsam wood. The bouquet grows in intensity as the wine warms in the glass. The tannins are well integrated within the depth and length of the mouthfeel. Give this Brunello a few more years to flesh out and soften.

It falls inwards on the palate, compressed and captivating, gathering rough-edged strands of tannins as it goes, threading them through an iron-fisted, central core of flavor and texture.
