Selbach (commonly known as Selbach-Oster) is one of the historic family estates of the Mosel region, with deep roots in traditional Riesling production. The Saar, a cooler subregion of the Mosel, is known for producing some of Germany’s most linear, high-acid, and long-lived Kabinett wines.
Steep slate slopes define the Saar landscape. These dark Devonian slate soils absorb daytime warmth and radiate it back to the vines during cool evenings, aiding ripening in this marginal climate. The long growing season allows Riesling to develop aromatic precision while preserving razor-sharp acidity.
“Kabinett” indicates grapes harvested at relatively lower ripeness compared to Spätlese or Auslese levels. In the Saar, this often results in wines with lower alcohol (typically around 7–9%) and a beautifully poised balance between residual sugar and acidity.
“Tradition” reflects a stylistic commitment to classical Mosel expression—transparent fruit, electric freshness, and terroir-driven minerality rather than overt sweetness.
