Taittinger is one of the few remaining family-owned Grande Marque Champagne houses, with a history dating back to 1734 through its predecessor Forest-Fourneaux. The modern legacy was shaped by Pierre Taittinger, who acquired the house in 1932 after falling in love with the region while serving as a cavalry officer during World War I. Today, the estate spans 288 hectares across the finest vineyards in the Champagne appellation, including prestigious parcels in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. This unique terroir is defined by chalky soils that provide natural drainage and a distinct mineral precision, while the temperate climate ensures a balanced ripening process that preserves the high acidity and elegance essential to the house style.
The winemaking philosophy at Taittinger is centered on the concepts of lightness and naturalness, characterized by a signature high proportion of Chardonnay. The Brut Vintage 2016 is crafted exclusively from first-press wines, blending 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir sourced primarily from Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages. Following the family’s pursuit of excellence, this cuvée underwent an extended aging process of over five years in the house's historic Gallo-Roman chalk cellars. This patient maturation allows the wine to develop a complex profile of white flowers, pear, and toasted brioche, resulting in a fresh and structured Champagne that beautifully expresses the harmony between the 2016 growing season and the refined Taittinger signature.
