Three Dark Horses is the new project for former Coriole winemaker
Matt Broomhead. After vintages in southern Italy (2007) and the Rhone
Valley he returned to McLaren Vale in late 2009 and, with his father Alan,
buys quality grapes, thanks to the long experience they both have in the
region. The third dark horse is Matt’s grandfather, a vintage regular. But
things are changing. In Nov ‘17 the business acquired a 5ha vineyard
in McLaren Vale, and will build an onsite winery. They are expanding
the plantings with grenache blanc, clairette and touriga nacional, and
reworking some of the shiraz vines planted in 1964.
