Champagne Drappier Grande Sendrée 2012 is the prestige cuvée of Champagne Drappier, produced from a historic single vineyard in Urville, within the Côte des Bar. Its name comes from a parcel covered in ashes after a fire devastated the village in 1836. A spelling error in the land register changed cendrée—meaning ash-covered—to the distinctive name Sendrée still used today.
The 2012 vintage blends 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. Pinot Noir gives the wine depth, red-fruit character, and vinous structure, while Chardonnay contributes freshness, precision, and mineral lift. The producer describes the vintage as mature yet still dominated by Pinot Noir, with a characteristic note of Napoleon cherry and strong ageing potential.
A proportion of the wine is matured in oak, while the dosage is approximately 4.5 g/L, using a liqueur aged for 15 years in wood. The cuvée is presented in a reproduction of an 18th-century bottle found in Drappier’s cellars, and riddling is completed entirely by hand.
