Fairview is one of South Africa's most respected family-owned wineries, founded in 1693 in Paarl. Renowned for championing Mediterranean grape varieties, Fairview has helped demonstrate the remarkable potential of South Africa's old-vine vineyards through wines that combine authenticity, balance, and a strong sense of place.

Pegleg Carignan is one of Fairview's signature single-varietal wines, crafted from mature bush vines grown in the Swartland region. Carignan thrives in the warm, dry Mediterranean climate of Swartland, where old vines naturally produce low yields of intensely flavored fruit while maintaining freshness and vibrant natural acidity.

The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small batches before maturing in French oak barrels. The restrained use of oak allows the variety's naturally bright fruit, savory herbs, and mineral character to remain the focus while adding texture and complexity.

The result is a distinctive, full-bodied Carignan that combines concentrated dark fruit, lively acidity, and refined tannins, showcasing one of South Africa's most exciting Mediterranean varieties.
