High Altitude Heritage in Almansa
On the sun‑baked slopes of D.O. Almansa in southeast Spain, vines of over 60 years old of Garnacha Tintorera flourish at around 1,090 metres above sea level, rooted in red, iron‑rich soils over a limestone base. The estate behind El Maso embraced this uniquely local varietal to craft a wine that speaks of both terroir and tradition.
From vineyard to bottle, the grapes are selected with precision, undergo a maceration/fermentation of approximately 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation and around 12 months’ ageing in American and French oak barrels. The result is a wine where power meets finesse, and where the altitude’s freshness tempers the heady fruit.
El Maso embodies a vision of modern Spanish fine wine: authentic, serious and reflective of place. It invites the drinker to explore Almansa’s lesser‑known heights and grape expression with confidence and pleasure.
