Bodegas Salentein is one of Argentina's pioneering wineries in the Uco Valley, playing a key role in establishing the region as one of the world's premier high-altitude wine-growing areas. By combining meticulous vineyard management with precision winemaking, Salentein produces wines that express the unique terroirs of the Andes.
Salentein Single Vineyard El Tomillo Malbec originates from the El Tomillo Vineyard in the Paraje Altamira GI, one of the Uco Valley's most prestigious appellations. Situated at approximately 1,150 metres above sea level, the vineyard features alluvial soils rich in gravel, limestone, and calcium carbonate deposited by the Tunuyán River. The combination of intense mountain sunlight and cool Andean nights produces Malbec with remarkable concentration while preserving freshness and aromatic precision.
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in small lots to preserve the character of the vineyard. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, adding complexity and texture while allowing the fruit and mineral expression to remain the focal point.
The result is an elegant yet structured Malbec that showcases the purity, freshness, and limestone-driven character that have made Paraje Altamira internationally renowned.
