Weingut Sutter is located in Hohenwarth, a historic wine village in Lower Austria, where winemaking traditions date back more than a thousand years. The estate cultivates vineyards on sandy loess, loam, and terraced gravel soils, producing wines that faithfully express the region's unique terroir through sustainable viticulture and careful cellar practices.
Sutter Blauer Zweigelt is made from Austria's most widely planted red grape variety. Created in 1922 by Professor Fritz Zweigelt through a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, Zweigelt has become the country's flagship red grape thanks to its vibrant fruit, elegant structure, and remarkable food friendliness.
The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness and fermented under controlled temperatures to preserve their fresh fruit character. Maturation takes place primarily in stainless steel and large neutral oak casks, allowing the variety's bright cherry fruit and gentle spice to remain the focus.
The result is a beautifully balanced red wine with juicy berry fruit, soft tannins, refreshing acidity, and the approachable elegance that defines Austrian Zweigelt.
