Tinto Pesquera is the flagship estate of Alejandro Fernández, widely credited as one of the architects behind Ribera del Duero’s rise to international recognition. His philosophy was simple yet revolutionary for the region: focus entirely on 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), harvest ripe, low-yield fruit, and build structure through careful oak aging.
Located on the high plateau of Ribera del Duero at approximately 750–900 meters altitude, the vineyards experience extreme continental conditions. Hot, dry summers concentrate sugars and phenolics, while cold nights preserve acidity. This diurnal contrast is central to Ribera’s powerful yet balanced profile.
As a Reserva, Spanish regulations require a minimum of 36 months aging, including at least 12 months in oak (often longer in practice at Pesquera). Extended barrel and bottle aging integrate tannins, soften the fruit, and develop secondary and tertiary complexity.
Compared to Rioja Reserva, Pesquera Reserva typically shows more concentration, firmer tannins, and a darker fruit profile—less silky, more structured and muscular.
