Bruno Giacosa was a towering figure in Piedmontese winemaking, often referred to as the "Genius of Neive" for his unrivaled ability to select and vinify the region's finest fruit. Joining his family's business at age 15, he represented the third generation of a lineage deeply rooted in the Langhe. A pioneer of the single-vineyard "cru" movement in the 1960s, Giacosa was legendary for his perfectionism; he famously refused to bottle any vintage that did not meet his exacting standards, selling it off in bulk instead. Today, his daughter Bruna continues this legacy at the estate in Neive, maintaining the same meticulous pursuit of excellence that established the house as one of Italy’s most respected names.
The winery's philosophy is rooted in a "tradition-updated" approach, emphasizing minimal intervention to allow the specific terroir to express itself fully. For the Nebbiolo d'Alba, the fruit is sourced from a restricted area around the city of Alba, where sandy and calcareous soils lend the wine a more accessible, floral, and elegant character compared to the heavier limestone marls of Barolo. In the cellar, the process involves temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel followed by patient maturation in large French oak casks—rather than smaller new barriques—to preserve the grape’s natural identity. This results in a structured yet refined wine, showcasing the vibrant red fruit and precision that define the Giacosa style.
