Château d’Yquem is universally regarded as the world's greatest sweet wine estate and remains the only château awarded the prestigious Premier Cru Supérieur classification in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Every vintage is crafted through painstaking hand selection, with multiple passes through the vineyard to harvest only perfectly botrytised berries.
The 2021 vintage is defined by elegance and precision. A cooler growing season compared with the warmer 2019 and 2020 vintages produced grapes with exceptional freshness, aromatic purity, and vibrant acidity. Careful vineyard management allowed noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) to develop under ideal conditions, concentrating the fruit while preserving remarkable balance.
Made primarily from Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc, the wine combines luxurious sweetness with extraordinary tension. Fermentation and maturation in new French oak barrels add texture and complexity without overshadowing the freshness that characterizes this vintage.
The result is a Château d'Yquem of exceptional finesse—less opulent than warmer vintages, but extraordinarily precise, elegant, and built for long-term evolution.
